Essential Plan 3000 and 4500 - Blue Shield of California Unveils Low-Cost PPO Plans for Individuals
If you’re looking for an inexpensive health insurance plan to cover your health care needs now then you now have a new, easy-to-use option. Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company is introducing Essential(SM) plans 3000 and 4500, which offer a range of features, including dental and vision coverage, at an affordable monthly premium.
Blue Shield created the Essential plans for young self-employed California workers or children not covered by an employer-sponsored health plan. The affordable premium of about $75 to $100 per month (based on age, location and various other factors) and a modest out-of-pocket maximum that equals the deductible means that even those previously uninsured can get the coverage they need with an Essential Plan.
“Adults, teens and children from all walks of life need affordable, flexible coverage from a reputable source,” said Lisa Rubino, senior vice president and chief executive of Blue Shield’s Individual, Small Group, and Government Business Unit. “With our new Essential plans, individuals can take advantage of affordable prices, a wide variety of features, and one of the largest provider networks in California.”
With Essential Plan 3000 ($3000 deductible) or Essential Plan 4500 ($4500 deductible), members are fully covered once the deductible is met. Members may make a physician office visit (with a $40 copay) up to three times per calendar year before being subject to the plan’s deductible. An Essential plan includes preventive care benefits and emergency room visits for fixed copays before the deductible is met, as well as dental and vision coverage.
Individuals in the Essential plan can take advantage of affordable copayments for generic prescription drugs at network pharmacies ($10). Designed for children and young adults in the individual coverage market, Blue Shield’s Essential plans do not provide maternity or brand-name prescription drug coverage.
